New phenomenon film on Netflix, the erotic thriller 365 DNI (365 days in French) has caused a real outcry on social networks.

Released online on 7 June, the Polish film is the second most watched content in France on the streaming platform.

365 DNI: the new Fifty Shades of Grey?

Adapted from Blanka’s novel Lipińska, the film tells the turbulent love story between Massimo Toricelli, a rich Sicilian mafia boss, and Laura, a sales manager in Poland.

From the very first minutes of the film, the gangster falls madly in love with the young woman during a trip to Sicily and decides to …kidnap her.

Don’t worry, he’s giving her 365 days to fall in love with him. And if the young woman has no feelings for him after a year, then he will take her home.

Unsurprisingly, Laura falls under the spell of her jailer and an unhealthy, sadomasochistic relationship develops between them. The young woman even accepts her captor’s proposal of marriage.

On social networks, some Internet users accuse the feature film of glorifying the Stockholm syndrome. Others were shocked by the problematic nature of the relationship between the characters.

In addition, the sex sequences (which sometimes appear to be unsimulated) have triggered an avalanche of negative criticism.

365 DNI: is a suite planned by Netflix?

With its sulphurous and disturbing side, will 365 DNI be entitled to a suite? According to actor Michele Morrone, the script for the second part is already in the final stages of writing.

According to him, the team would wait for the green light to start shooting the film while respecting the health conditions linked to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Like Fifty Shades of Grey, the Polish thriller is a three-volume literary trilogy.

And it is quite likely that Netflix will decide to adapt the other two volumes of the saga.
