The adventures of the superheroine from the island of Themyscira now take place in 1984 as the title suggests. After saving the world during the Second World War, Wonder Woman landed in the middle of the Cold War.

With its upbeat and retro atmosphere and 1980s style and soundtrack, the first trailer of Wonder Woman 1984 -revealed last night at Comic Con Experience in Brazil- strikes hard. And the heroine is once again played by the brilliant Gal Gadot.

Still directed by Patty Jenkins, our heroine with the golden lasso will have a hard time with the arrival of two antagonists. The first is performed by Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones, Narcos, The Mandalorian) who lends his features to the meta-human Maxwell Lord. The latter is described by the director as “…” the king of the info-commercial “who” is selling the dream to the public. He’ll do anything to succeed, but sometimes when you get what you want, you have to pay the price. “she reveals. Might as well be a mystery about this character.

The second antagonist introduced is Cheetah, an emblematic character from the comic book world. Played by actress Kristen Wiig, Barbara Minerva, the real name of this hybrid half-woman half-cat, is first a friend and ally of Diana Prince before becoming her enemy.

What will catch the attention of the fans in this trailer is the return of Steve Trevor, Prince’s first love, who disappeared in the first opus. The latter appears to be alive and well, but who knows what this episode will bring?

The film is scheduled to hit French cinemas in June 2020, two years after the release of the first film.
