Have you lost faith in love? You think no one cares enough about you to brave land and sea to find you? Perhaps you will be galvanized by reading the story of this male stork who, for sixteen years now, has been flying thousands and thousands of miles each year to find his special partner, a female stork that is immobilized and unable to fly.
This is Malena. This is Klepetan. They’re both… storks. But not just any stork. Two storks who have maintained a love affair for almost two decades, despite the ups and downs of life that have handicapped Malena, preventing her from flying forever. The animal was indeed wounded by hunters, before being taken in by the Croatian widower Stjepan Vokic, who made it his pet. Only storks are migratory birds, which as such have the habit of moving with each change of season.
Thus, Klepetan has got into the habit of returning to South Africa at the end of each summer… but has been returning every year, at the beginning of spring for the past sixteen years, to Stjepan’s home in Croatia to find his soul mate stork Malena, having never forgotten her all this time, despite the 13,000 km to be covered. A beautiful story showing that love is able to overcome all obstacles, all borders, all distances.
And if storks are able to make their love live on despite all the unpleasantness of life, why shouldn’t we human beings be able to do so?
